I bought a 1966 24' Par Craft Samoa last month, and this weekend
will be sailing her up the Columbia River from Portland, OR to
Hood River.

She's a 24' masthead rigged sloop, 4600 lbs. with 2200 of that as
ballast. Fiberglass hull, fixed keel. No internal engine. I've
been scouring the Internet looking for information about this
craft, and have found nothing. Nada. Not a thing. For all I
know, I'm going to be the world's foremost authority on the Par
Craft Samoa. Not that there are going to be legions giving a
crap.

Anyway, should someone have a link, I'd appreciate it. Stories
would be good, too. Outright lies have their place as well.

I've windsurfed various sites on the Columbia River a number of times. You
should have an interesting trip, especially if the wind is cranking. Big
swells at Swell City and the Hatchery near Hood River. Watch for barges.

I live in Lyle, in a house that overlooks the river. I bought it
for the view. It's like three miles from Doug's Beach. The
windsurfers look like insect wings on the water when the wind's
up.

I am so looking forward to this trip. I've done some sailing,
but this is the first time I've done it to actually get from one
place to another. Plus, I get to lock up through Bonneville Dam,
which is freaking my friends out.

Freaked out friends is good.
