Bert, I'll be thinking of you as I bounce balls off the ice on #10!

It makes the water hazards a bit less challenging. Shoot for the lake
and plan in getting an extra 40 yards on your drive.

(like the parking lot scene in Tin Cup)

Yup, as long as it comes off the ice. Sometimes the ball bounces into the
far bank and comes back on
the ice. The lake at Greendale must have 25 balls on the ice.

Free balls. Just get a long pole. Or a buddy and drag a rope across the
surface.

Nah, they have divers come once a year. Fill up big bags. Don't know what they do with them. I've
got too many 'free' balls now, and the grandkids don't want anymore. When I find them now, I'll give
the guys I'm with first dibs, then they just get left where someone can have them.

I knew a guy who dove ponds for the balls. They became range balls for the
golf course. My buddy who lives in Reno, next to a golf course picked up
balls while walking his lab. Sorted them by make and model. Sold about
5000 of them a few years ago for a few thousand dollars.

IIRC way back in HS I think I had a friend who dove for used balls in
the lakes and sold them somewhere.....

The divers sell them.
They end up at flea markets and dollar stores.

The balls that the grounds keepers find at my wife's course end up in
a barrel at the pro shop, for free. It speeds up play if you get free
balls

We throw balls in the barrel also. The pro uses them, but he's usually got too many. Our course
doesn't have a driving range.
