The HSM newsgroups have fared reasonably well. Rec.boats, apparently,
not so well. One boat reference in 30 days. Not good... this may be a

Gene, you left a big hole in the boating content when you left, not to
mention a badly needed voice of reason. We need to take back the
group from the loony tunes segment - don't know if its possible.

I am thinking of taking a buddy out Saturday for some shark and ray
fishing. He has a kid in his church that is working on a fishing merit
badge, but has not yet caught a fish. Drop the crab pots outside the
Golden Gate on the 4 fathom bank and then go catch and release sharks. The
bay's shark run from small leopard and smooth hound sharks up to a about
200 pound seven gills, and some soup fin sharks. The leopard sharks are
good eating, minimum size 36". Lots of Bat Rays. Most in the 10-15#
range. I have landed years ago, an 80# one.
