Thing is Bill, the USA has plenty of tax revenues available to pay for
all kinds of things, including a systematic reduction of debt, if we
were willing to make the hard choices and re-arrange spending
priorities. The current administration hasn't seriously dealt with
that, mainly because of the protective nature of Congress members for
programs that benefit their home states.

The biggest one is defense spending. We could cut it in half tomorrow
and still be spending four times as much as any other nation on the
planet. We don't need 11 aircraft carriers and their support task force
ships anymore. That kind of defense spending is a carry over from the
days of the Cold War and only continues because it protects jobs.

Cuts in defense spending would hurt for a while and cause a kick in
unemployment numbers. But if the economy can start growing again at a
decent rate, those affected will be absorbed into an expanding job base.

spending and raise taxes. Both on those now paying taxes and those
presently getting a free ride. Is just not this administration that is
overspending, but they are printing money like mad, which is going to be
the semi hidden tax of inflation. Also leading us to lose reserve currency
status. My oldest daughter is 40 years old. I think same as you're
child. How the hell have we burdened them with so much debt, for no
infrastructure? At least in Ike's time we build highways with our
spending. 40 years ago, the debt was only about $650 billion. We have to
decide that the people actually have to work for a living. We give 99
weeks of unemployment now. You could get an Associates degree in less
time. Maybe we have to go back to the 26 weeks and those people will have
to get a job with a cut in pay. Why do we have so many Latinos here
working when citizens state they can not get a job? Lack of work ethic?

Been to Costa Rica several times. First time for 30 days, and figured that
was a week too long. Do not think I would want to move there. But if we
crash, it is going to be a world wide depression, so better to live
someplace where you can fish and grow a nice garden. Sort of Victory

You have hundreds of other posts denigrating the Tea Party,
and you have to post another, linking transfat and the Tea Party.
As I said I don't think you are ignorant, and I was right!
It just shows the hate you have, to pick any topic and link it to the
Tea Party.
I think the left is trying put distance between you and them.

That's right, Mikey. I think the Tea Party and its leaders and many of
its followers are trash. Most Americans also have negative opinions of
the Tea Party.
