I guess it was too sexist ... like "shop". ---------------------------- Home Ec was dropped in favor of sex education years ago. The powers to be decided that knowing how to cook wasn't really important but knowing how to .... well, you get my drift. I've never seen one bit of evidence that Home Economics was dropped in favor of Sex Education. I agree. Home Ec was dropped because it was seen as sexist and shop was dropped because it implied that everyone was not going to go to college. Now we have home makers who do not have a clue how to prepare nutritious meals and think they need a licensed union electrician to put a plug on a lamp but not a clue how they could become that person. I don't know the shop classes you took but, the ones that I took in 7th, 8th and 9th grade were invaluable in determining what I like to do and what I wanted to do in the future. I even took an auto mechanics class and an electronics class. The one the served me the best was the MIS class. |
