I'm just not in favor of making it out to be the ****tiest country in the world like ESAD, Donnie, jps, et al. I suppose you should be in the list also, given the wagon you ride. http://www.nizkor.org/features/fallacies/straw-man.html Yup, when 'person B' presented, "Isn't pride supposed to be a sin?" Asking a simple question doesn't mis-characterize your position. |

Nope. I said there was a lot of poverty in BVI after you suggested there wasn't. === Poverty is relative to your expectations and to the life style of your peers. There are a lot of people in the islands who don't have a lot of money, who you might judge as being technically poor. I had a great aunt and uncle like that in upstate NY. They were warm, dry and well fed, just like most people in the islands, but they had a very modest life style without a lot of what we consider modern conveniences. They were happy however, had their own house in the country, and had everything they needed. I've gotten to know a few people down in the Bahamian Out Islands. There are no real jobs there other than fishing but people have a place to live and seem well adjusted. We once asked one of them about the chickens which seem to run loose everywhere. Specifically I asked how they knew who the chickens belonged to. We received a very puzzled look, and the answer was that nobody knew and it didn't matter: "If you want a chicken, you just go out and catch one." Same thing is true with the pigs which run loose on many islands. So how can you be really poor in a place like that? |
