One of the issues that I see is that health care providers (mostly doctors) have no incentive to control costs, quite the opposite in fact. The more tests and diagnostic procedures that they order, the more they get paid. It's almost like being able to write your own paycheck. Patients have no reason to complain about costs as long as their insurance or medicare is picking up the tab, and doctors who have learned how to work the system, and there are consultants to help, are doing quite well. |
