We have white kids, black kids, oriental kids, and latino kids in our little area, and they all have lots of friends, so I am used to seeing all manner of kids just about every day around here, especially after school. In fact, there are "pickup" softball or football or soccer games most afternoons in decent weather on a big empty lot not far from our house. I've also "hired" the older high school boys to do miscellaneous yard chores for us. I doubt the Martin kid and I would have exchanged anything more than a nod or a hello. A kid carrying a soft drink and a snack wouldn't get a second glance from me. |
