The power of a large breaking wave is not to be under estimated. Wow. A 45 footer! *Wayne was it a rogue wave or could they have detected it coming? There was a small craft advisory out that day.. (7 to 9 feet seas).. The winds were shifting from the NW to N. @16-18mph.. gusts to 23 mph.. right around the time of capsizing.. http://www.wunderground.com/history/...1/22/DailyHist... (airport ~1mile west of inlet.. ) * That inlet can be a real pain, today, I navigated it with an outgoing tide and winds driving waves (the exact opposite direction) into the inlet. *Took a real beating, but had no choice other than taking 6 to 7 foot closely spaced waves head on.. (very little room for maneuver in that inlet).. Glad you made it though ok. I was wondering if there was a technology that could give any kid of warning that waves like that could be upon them. And if so, I would think that a 45 foot commercial vessel would have been equipped with such. but maybe not. |
