Yes, and it wouldn't be all that difficult for anyone who is halfway
handy with wood working tools, epoxy and fiberglass. I'd start by
laminating a few sheets of 1/4 inch exterior ply with one layer of
relatively light weight glass on each side. It's easy to get the
panels dead nutz flat that way and much easier to laminate than after
it has been built into a box.

Evaluate the panels for stiffness; laminate extra layers of glass on
each side as needed for strength/rigidity but remember that the sides
and bottom do not require extreme stiffness.

Use the pre-laminated panels, cut out the pieces you need for the box,
seal the edges of all pieces with epoxy, and then tack the whole thing
together using clamps or light weight fasteners. Next step is to
thicken some epoxy and filet all of the inside corners with something
like a 1/2 inch radius (being careful to keep everything in square
alignment). Cover the filets with one or two layers of 3 inch
fiberglass tape/epoxy and let the whole thing cure.

You should now have a very strong and rigid box assembly that can be
filled/sanded/finished/painted the way you want. Make a cover using
the same technique as the box, sizing it to overlap the edges by some
small amount. The top will need to be stiffer than the sides and
bottom if you are going to use it for seating.



I made my console with glass over plywood but time is money and I
really was hoping to just buy something. I also think I like the resin
boxes better than glass.

I have a 24X36 black box you can stand on. Lockable 2 ways. Costs less
than $100. Think of it as waterproof storage space AND sitting/standing
space. Does recommitting 6 square feet seem so bad now?

Those 23 year old boxes are getting pretty tired. I was looking for an
upgrade. Those were sold as tool boxes.
It does seem to be about the perfect solution tho. My life jackets and
other supplies stay dry and mildew free in there, not a mean trick in
Florida.

If they are that tight, I think I'd use them! If it ain't broke, don't
fix it!

Sorry I missed the beginning of the conversation but I get it now. I
guess aluminum might be best. Of course I would whip it out in a day out
of Occoume Plywood, a quart of Epoxy, some wood flower and some two inch
tape. I noticed someone suggested two layers of three inch tape, but you
are not building a yacht, just a box

You could also use a core material a lot lighter than plywood too... You
could make it all composite with a honeycomb fill and tight weave
fiberglass cloth...

Right now I am looking at EvaKool 85 liter coolers (Maybe the IceKool)

If I could find some of those "seconds" they have on their Australian
site I would jump in a heartbeat. Retail I am looking at close to a
grand. I am also not sure they are good at keeping water out but I
think they are gasketed.
