I just did a quick google for dock boxes and got a million shapes and
sizes... Is there something I missed in a post, something unusual you
are looking for?

This is what I am replacing

I am constrained by the width between the edge of the boat and the
door.

Hows about rotating the box counter clockwise 90 degrees? Is that doable?

It starts eating up deck space pretty fast that way.

Sorry I missed the beginning of the conversation but I get it now. I
guess aluminum might be best. Of course I would whip it out in a day out
of Occoume Plywood, a quart of Epoxy, some wood flower and some two inch
tape. I noticed someone suggested two layers of three inch tape, but you
are not building a yacht, just a box

You could also use a core material a lot lighter than plywood too... You
could make it all composite with a honeycomb fill and tight weave
fiberglass cloth...
