My daughter bought her condo when she was 25 years old. Drove a Ford.
Did do some travel, but lived economically. Same condo comlex has a
couple who rent the condo for $4k a month, and drive leased luxury
sedans. Who is going to have a hard retirement?

I'd bet on the couple who rent the condo having a happier retirement
than your daughter.

Several reasons, but one is this: you can't predict what the future will
deal you, so it is important to have some fun while you can. Some 30
years ago, my doctor, a great doctor in his mid 40's, was shot by a
burglar he caught at his house. The doc died a short time later. He
didn't have any retirement. Another friend of mine, also a physician,
died in his early 40's two weeks after being diagnosed with pancreatic
cancer.

I am not saying you shouldn't save for your retirement. You should. But
you should also go through life having fun, not just pinching pennies.

It's interesting that you feel qualified to give financial advice to
others.

who the heck said she did not have fun. She just pays for it now. While
also saving for the future. Why spend $500+ a month for a car lease when
you can buy a cheaper car for less per month and in 3 years you have equity
in the car? She has been to Europe a couple times, Bora Bora and NZ, as
well as the Cooke Islands. Seems as if she has a good life. Plus two nice
girls and a husband. Plus she owns most of the property she resides in. A
lot more than the bank.

West Marine has a pretty good selection of dock boxes. Pricey, but
they go on sale every once in a while.
