Maybe we should be spending a little more time figuring out why people
do these things instead of simply trying to put everything that could
be used as a weapon on a high shelf.

This is similar to the way we are handling airline security. Instead
of targeting terrorists, we target the last weapon they came up with.
That does absolutely nothing to stop the next weapon.
Guns are designed to kill. Box cutters are designed to open boxes.
Yet the latter took down four planes on September 11, 2001.
