Do you remember how unreliable the original Nicad batteries were? The lithium ion batteries that we are now using in our laptops are literally 3 to 4 times as good - lighter, cheaper, more power and more durable - same with cordless tools. One of the ways that you get fresh eyes looking at a problem is to create demand. All of those Chevy Volts are going to need new battery packs someday. There will be smart guys looking at that market trying to invent a better mouse trap and make a few bucks. Without the market demand there would be no incentive. |
