i'm at long beach island in beach haven, nj....morrison's marina. nice, multgenerational place where people have been boating for 75 years. has a nice webcam, too http://live.morrisonslbi.com/index.html Mostly Lake Carlyle at Carlyle IL. It's Illinois largest man-made lake"Man-made, because the Army Corps of Engineers dammed up the Kaskaskia River back in the early 50's and make it quite a fishing, boating area. Lot's of sailboats, too. Plenty of room and on the busiest holidays it's not crowded. It's very wweell kept and has a $3.00 launch fee. It's 60 miles from my house to the East Access Launch site: http://www.carlylelake.com/Maps/lakemap2.htm If wanting to take a short run, there's Omega Lake at Stephen Forbes state park. http://www.bikingillinois.com/photos/SAForbesLake.jpg It's a nice picnic lake which can be great for skiing, tubing and fishing. But gets crowded on holiday weekends. but through the week, it seems you can have the whole place for yourself. No launch fees and a really nice launch facility. Another thing about the lake is stay away from the shoreline, even if it seems deep, it's a good way to catch a stump and ruin an outdrive. But it IS a fun little place. |
