I'm not in the bay near as much as I used to be, because golf, which I took up when I turned 60, has really cut into my fishing time. The grandkids like either the Potomac or Lake Anna. If you like looking at lots of estuary wildlife in one of the few unspoiled estuaries in the country, Estero bay is a pretty cool place. That is why I moved here Don't know if you've ever heard of Useppa Island, which is down south of you. That island played a role in the series of books I'm about to finish. The series is historical fiction, but the role played by the island, a home for union sympathizers during the Civil War, was factual. The series is the 'Honor' series by Robert N. Macomber. There are a few other "boat only" islands in that area and one that also has a little airport for the filthy rich. (upper Captiva) That is up near Boca Grande pass where you see a lot of those tarpon fishing shows. They fish the drift in rows of boats that do a dance, alternating from the front to the back of the pack as they drift out of the pass. As long as everyone follows the rules it is pretty orderly. I have been in that zoo a couple if times on my Pine Island friend's boat. Now I understand. When you mentioned Estero Bay, I thought that's where you were located. This old age is a bitch! |
