Lake Anna is pretty close to Kings Dominion, an amusement park I haven't been to in probably 30 years. I think the park is owned by the Cedar Point amusement park people. |

i'm at long beach island in beach haven, nj....morrison's marina. nice, multgenerational place where people have been boating for 75 years. has a nice webcam, too http://live.morrisonslbi.com/index.html Mostly Lake Carlyle at Carlyle IL. It's Illinois largest man-made lake"Man-made, because the Army Corps of Engineers dammed up the Kaskaskia River back in the early 50's and make it quite a fishing, boating area. Lot's of sailboats, too. Plenty of room and on the busiest holidays it's not crowded. It's very wweell kept and has a $3.00 launch fee. It's 60 miles from my house to the East Access Launch site: http://www.carlylelake.com/Maps/lakemap2.htm If wanting to take a short run, there's Omega Lake at Stephen Forbes state park. http://www.bikingillinois.com/photos/SAForbesLake.jpg It's a nice picnic lake which can be great for skiing, tubing and fishing. But gets crowded on holiday weekends. but through the week, it seems you can have the whole place for yourself. No launch fees and a really nice launch facility. Another thing about the lake is stay away from the shoreline, even if it seems deep, it's a good way to catch a stump and ruin an outdrive. But it IS a fun little place. |

The series is historical fiction, but the role played by the island, a home for union sympathizers during the Civil War, was factual. The series is the 'Honor' series by Robert N. Macomber. A fun read. http://www.robertmacomber.com/Books.html Useppa is actually north of me but I am familiar with it. Cabbage Key is up there too, great place for lunch and a walk around. There are a few other "boat only" islands in that area and one that also has a little airport for the filthy rich. They fish the drift in rows of boats that do a dance, alternating from the front to the back of the pack as they drift out of the pass. As long as everyone follows the rules it is pretty orderly. I have been in that zoo a couple if times on my Pine Island friend's boat. Now I understand. When you mentioned Estero Bay, I thought that's where you were located. This old age is a bitch! Hell, I thought he said "Estrogen Bay." Why did you think that? Perhaps because the word 'Estero' is somewhat close to 'Estrogen'? Perhaps because he was being a tad humorous? Perhaps so I wouldn't feel so ****ing stupid for the location errors I made with regard to Greg and Useppa Island. In any case, what ****ing difference does it make? |

I have cruised most of the South Pacific Islands, but love it here most. nice! must be cold as hell there though...how long is your season? --------------------------------------------------------- Season runs a long time. Is called the Sunshine Coast. I have not boated that side of the straights but do boat the Vancouver Island side. Is a protected area, as Vancouver Island has 6-7000' mountain range running up the middle of the island. There are some warm water swimming areas as the 13' tides uncover large sand area that heat from the sun and warm the water as it returns. Parksville where we normally stop for a night on our trips will have 70 degree water on sunny days. Beautiful scenery as well as decent fishing. Nice RV parks as well as reasonable B&B's to allow me to suck up to SWMBO. |
