It was a staging area for the ill fated Cuban Bay of Pigs invasion among other things. It is now a very posh residents club and resort. Directly west of Useppa, several hundred yards across the Gulf Coast ICW is Cabbage Key. Cabbage Key has some guest cottages and a small restaurant/pub which is a very popular boating destination hereabouts. Well, I thought I was responding to Greg, and that Useppa Is. was south of him. But, I'm getting older'n hell. I think the Union sympathizers who staged from Useppa were much more successful than the Bay of Pigs guys. |
