Default Help Me Guesstimate: Small Boats in N. America

I mostly enjoy this group as a 'lurker', learning more about boating
everyday.

Vancouver Island boaters are thankful for an astounding
spring/summer/fall this year. My first trip to Desolation Sound in a
small boat, 18 1/2 foot Canaventure Cuddy. She's well named as the Miss
Adventure. Desolation Sound must be considered a true boater's paradise.

I'm developing an item I'd like to market to boaters and I'm trying to
get a handle on an approximate number of small boats, in the 16 - 25
foot range that would be in use in the combined Canada/USA area.

I don't know, an awful lot of marinas with an awful lot of boats....
wouldn't you think?

The National Marine Manufacturers Association keeps statistics like you are
seeking, but they aren't going to be accurate. There are a lot of unregistered
small boats out there.

But run a search on NMMA and see what you find.

The internet system never fails to amaze me. According to the National
Marine Manufactures Association, there are 11,853,900 outboard, inboard
and sterndrive boats in use in just the U.S in 2002.

Thanks for the straight forward tip.
