Too bad we don't penalize companies who ship jobs overseas or reform the tax code, so that companies who do business in the US pay US taxes. Taxing companies in foreign countries - they are just going to tell the USA to **** off. And why some have already moved. DC can tax them on imports, but Americans pay. Sort of like oil, tax oil you pay. As it should be. Did you know that DA Plume's native Iceland is actually one of our better trading partners. Their exports (fish) to us are less than our exports to them. But our trade balances with China, Mexico, Canada,Japan, and Germany need fixing. Maybe some more tariffs on them. And eliminate Nafta. NAFTA haters would like to cut their own throats. Fact is if you have to pay more for things, you will consume less. You can't protect your way to prosperity but you can raise costs and lower consumption. Be my guess, the people that hurt the worst with this bull**** are the same ones that propel it. For example, local office furniture shop needs steel, but has to buy inferior and more costly US steel has to charge more for furniture and offset it with lower wages or higher prices. In the process people buy less and less employment. In the end less prosperity for all. Take oil. Go ahead, tax them more. They will pass the costs right to you at the pump. -- Seems like paying your bills with real money is no longer the accepted behavior in USA. Perhaps that is the problem and not the the solution. |

One wise statement in a row, keep up the good work ;-) Is this a right wing agenda item or a pro-American business agenda item? ![]() |

Funny, I don't blame them. A iPad made in China and sold in China is supposed to pay DC income tax? Maybe China should impose a 5% currency loss taxes on US.... Hear yourself think? Look GE, putting $2B into China, moving its medial where the profits are. Makes sense. You backwards fleabeggars need to know the universe does not rotate around USA. Who knows, maybe Apple will pick up sticks and move to China. All USA has to offer is just more debt and debt-taxation. Which is really why jobs suck, not a good environment. -- Seems like paying your bills with real money is no longer the accepted behavior in USA. Who knows, maybe Apple will pick up sticks and move to China. All USA has to offer is just more debt and debt-taxation. Which is really why jobs suck, not a good environment. Apple already does virtually all of it's manufacturing and assembly in China and they do most of the markup there so they do not look that profitable when they are sold here. The answer would be to tax these products coming into the country at the same rate China taxes our products going into their country. We give China unreasonable breaks and then wonder why they are winning the trade war. FACT: I bought a disk enclosure on Ebay that ended up coming from China. Total cost including shipping was $2.30 and came air mail USPS. I just mailed a pair of sunglasses to my daughter 150 miles away in West Palm, it cost $1.79 USPS. Both boxes weighted about the same (3.5-4 oz rate). Assuming the part was 30 cents, how can you ship something half way around the world for virtually the same price as it costs to ship across a skinny state? I sent a camera to China last year and the price was about the same as sending it to Australia (close to $80). If I got the same box from China it would be cheaper than sending it to Miami. Why is that? A few years back I flew to Amsterdam. The cost from Dulles to Amsterdam and return was half again as much as the cost of flying from Amsterdam to Dulles and return. Same airlines. |

Why is that? I suspect they are building the cost of shipping into the price that is paid for the item. I pay about $14 (depending) to ship a skirt to Australia. I pay less than $5 to ship the skirt anywhere in the US. |

My postal carrier said it is because the USPS does not get anything near the regular postage on imported goods. The US part of the trip is getting a special rate. There are a lot of people ****ed about this at USPS. Maybe the disk enclosure only cost them $0.03 to make? No idea. You're right though... China is just doing it's capitalistic best. I think some regulation is in order. |
