I am considering the purchase of a pygmy kayak. It requires building.
I am inexperienced in building boats. Does anyone know of a reputable
boat/kayak builder in the San Diego, CA area?

Thanks

I also know a woman that had no woodworking experience whatsoever and built

I noticed that absolute beginners seem to be able to make nice S&G kayaks.
I saw one made by an experienced woodworker and it was exceptional.
However, I don't think many people would notice the difference.

If anything absolute beginners are likely to build S&G boats just as nice as
an experienced woodworker. There isn't a lot of woodworking on a S&G boat
anyway. Patience and attention to detail likely contribute to a nice S&G
boat as much as woodworking skills. An absolute beginner is probably more
likely going to pay attention to every detail (fearing that they're going to
do something wrong) than the experience woodworker that might not follow
instructions as closely. The only area where experience really helps is in
the varnishing.
