A treat for Yall
My recollection is that the DC fireworks are paid for by the city government of the District of Government. I saw the Boston fireworks on TV in the past and was curious because they seemed a lot more extensive. The Boston show apparently is paid for by private corporate interests. -- Want to discuss recreational boating and fishing in a forum where personal insults are not allowed? http://groups.google.com/group/rec-boating-fishing I remember 1976 watching the 24 hr a day fireworks on 'cable tv" pumped in live from Boston Harbor. Recording equipment was in pioneer stages then but wow I wished i could have taped it. Absolutely spectacular. Fireworks going off in broad daylight and *seemingly hundreds of fire boats in full spray. very awsome! We did the 1976 show in my dad's old wooden lapstrake Pen Yann *then tere was a big gap in our attendance until a couple of years ago. One thing that was annoying was the helicoptor circling and shining the spot light on the crowd. We got there a day early so we could get a spot close enough so that we could actually hear the concert live but the chopper drowned out a lot of it. That's a damn shame. Wonder if it's still happening? Do you will the chopper be there next year? My guess is yes. I'm sure that CBS pays good money for the rights to broadcast the event. I'm going to see who I can send complaints to though. I don't see why they couldn't set up cameras on cranes instead. Boston businessman David Mugar is the driving force behind the event so I'll start there. We were there the day before and saw the rehersal performance which is as good as the show just minus the fireworks. Speaking of fireboats... we stayed overnight on the boat and the next morning we were up before 0500 and saw smoke coming from the fireworks barges. My friend and I hopped in the dinghy and went over to look: http://www.thebostonchannel.com/vide...65/detail.html It took almost an hour for the big tubby fireboat to show up and put out what was left of the fire. On our way back to the boats a Massport catamaran fireboat blasted by us. When we got back my wife who was onboard said it had passed about 50 feet away and before she could do anything the wake hit. My buddy's stern rail smashed down on my Magma grill and then on the next roll snapped it out of the rod holder onto the deck pretty much wrecking it. I contacted Massport and surprisingly heard back from them right away saying to send in a report. We'll see how that goes. |
