Default Cylinder Index - big boys with toys

Better yet, let's admire the person with the LOWEST cylinder index.

p.s. I'd hazard a bet that your bosses waist index is also a bit
larger than yours :-)

While I definitely yield to him (104 vs. 9), it did get me thinking
about an equivalent in silent, people powered sports. I'd propose maybe
a carbon index - how many sticks of carbon you own, including bike
frames, ski poles, paddles, maybe even golf clubs. Any thoughts?
Memorable counts?

....so perhaps start by adding up bike wheels, skates(ice/ inline; each pair
equal 2), same for paddles, footwear: 2pts/pair, skis- ....(perhaps skis
should be 1point/pair, and boots 1pt/pr)....divide the total by 2(or not)
I could do well at this as I am inclined not to throw anything out.

Yuh, two bicycles, one pair of skiis, and three pairs of hiking boots
would add up OK, but I'd do marginally better counting boats at two
points each than at counting paddles. But what is a climber gonna
count? Harnesses?

However it's done, I will proudly rank higher on this index than on
the cylinder index (10; a V-twin motorcycle and a V-8 van). To my
mind, motors are for the road (yeh, the motorbike's almost as much fun
as boating, and I've got nothing against sportscars, on pavement), but
"powersports" is an oxymoron, and 99% of jetskis, ATVs, snowmobiles,
and SUVs should be crushed for scrap.

A cartoon show, King of something, did an episode mocking the
absurdity of huge lawn-tractors.

Richard,

Hm. Interesting, I have 60% the cylinders in my life that you do, but my
SUV should be crushed for scrap while your van and Motorcycle go free?

I do Pretty well, between my gf and I we have 5 boats, 3 bicycles, 1
snowboard, a pile of climbing gear, plus rollerblades and running gear. And
bodyboards. Oh, and Scuba gear.

Context, context! The context was "off-road"! (^BD (Notice the cute
way my little smiley face is wearing his helmet? I'm not sure if it's
his motorcyle helmet or his Gratful Heads, though.)

Jetskis, ATVs, snowmobiles, and SUVs are designed to be used off the
road, where they can destroy the land that has not already bin paved
over. My van, my motorbike, sedans, minivans and station-wagons,
sportscars, trucks and semi-trailers are designed for the road, and my
van and motorbike stay on the road or the shoulder.

My statement was that, in my view, "motors are for the road". The
reason I said "99%" instead of 100% is that there are a few very real
SAR, geological or biological survey, archaeological or
paleontological exploration, law-enforcement, and probably a few other
socially valuable uses for off-road vehicles.
