If they killed all the hostages the answer is simple, sink the boat
and leave the survivors bobbing in the sea.

They're on a very nice sailboat owned by the dead hostage.

They no longer have need of it. The sailboat is a pirate ship now. Lob
a few 5" HE rounds into it from a couple miles away and come home.

If we really want to stop this crap we can.
Use aerial surveillance to profile the mother ships, monitor them from
over the horizon and when they start an attack, be there with air
power.. If you sink a few of these, the pirates may decide pirating is
not worth the risk.
=======

I think hiring the Russians would be a good solution. When they had a
problem with the pirates, the Russians got the ship back and the pirates
were lost at sea.
Board anything that looks like a mother ship and if there is no legitimate
means of support, put her on the bottom.

Then what?Pirating is 100% of the Somali GNP.

Then pirating will just be in South East Asian waters.

Pirates need to be dealt with swiftly and harshly regardless of their
location in the world.

Unfortunately the only difference between Somali fisherman and pirates
is guns and opportunity. Frequently they are one and the same, and
there are a lot of them. Imagine trying to track all of the fishing
boats off the coast of Florida.

Well, it seems like there is a pattern recognition problem. Perhaps
Watson can sort it out. :)

I bet they can find the mother ships. These are not coastal pirates.

As I understand it the mother ships are more like our local shrimp
boats here, perhaps smaller. Those boats have a surprisingly long
operating range and are not all that large.

Why don't we use Predators? Seems like it would be a lot for a the
buck. If they carry bombs, well, you know there aren't going to be too
many innocents involved.

That is what I was thinking and use a global hawk for the
surveillance.
One advantage of drones is we wouldn't have the problem of taking
prisoners. That seems pretty effective in Afghanistan. Just kill them
all and let god sort them out.

The idea of putting these guys in an American prison as some kind of
deterrent is ridiculous. If you are a Somali pirate, Pelican Bay is a
health spa. Did you see the smile on the face of the guy they took on
the Maersk Alabama while they were hauling him off to prison?
Maybe it is time we brought back "walking the plank" for these
pirates.

Great idea, but won't fly. These guys are no worse than terrorists, therefore
they deserve a trial by jury and all the other constitutional rights the
liberals demand for terrorists.

It just can't be any other way.

We need to recover the sailboat so we can tax it as an asset as it's
going from parents to children.

LOL!

Very liberal of you!

Yeah, that is a cruel joke. Not only will we tax the kids for their
parent's boat, we also tax them to keep their parent's killers in
prison for 50 years or so.

What's needed is an anchor that can be transformed into a .50 cal. It is really
hard to believe that we're bringing those f**kers back here for a trial.

Could just let the kids decide what should happen to the killers of
their parents.

I would vote for slit the wrists and walk the plank. No need to waste a
shell or spend money. Ok, use the shell of the don't walk.

But if this is too harsh for liberals, let the liberals pay.

Insane really. 3 squares and safety of Club Fed. No wonder there is so
much piracy. Might even get a US law degree for it.

I always wonder how a backwards skiff without rater finds a boat 300km
out. I do suspect they get help in this, inside help that is.
