the North controlled some southern states by then. But the fear was
antislavery, but not slavery per se. Hell, only 26% of North Carolina
family's owned slaves. And some slave owners were black. Imagine that.

didnt matter. the perception of the right to own slaves was more
important than slavery. and almost no blacks owned slaves


And a majority of the whites did not own slaves. Imagine the states
telling the Federal government these days to observe the rights of states.

So, for those who did own slaves, that was ok with you... got it. No Federal
standards. Anything goes when you cross a state line. Who gives a damn about
a neighbor. You certainly don't.
