I just put a new impellar on my 86 alpha 1 When I had the impellar top cover off I noticed there is alot of side to side play in the drive shaft coming up out of the lower unit [ a good 1/8-1/4 in at least, just a estimate ] does anyone know how much side to side play is normal ? thanks

Some play is normal with the impeller off. I had the same question
myself the first time I pulled one apart, took it to my local dealer
and the mechanic said don't worry about it.

Glas you clarified that, because I was wondering that myself. I was
getting ready to dig out my Mercruiser shop manual to find out.
