It's supposed to be fairly stable, but I understand that if you are using Vista or XP, it's a bit buggy. Forget it if you are using Linux. There is a new option which is much better than SeaClear in my opinion. It is called OpenCPN, has a better user interface, more features, and runs on just about any platform. Did I mention that it is free? http://www.opencpn.org/download The latest production version is 1.3.6, the Beta version of 2.1 is not yet ready for prime time. |

Free's for me!! :) I'll check it out - thanks. How's the cruise going? Cruise is going well, now on the final leg home after about 3,500 nautical miles since January. Right now we are in the Ragged Islands, way far south in the Bahamas, not far from eastern Cuba. We'll be heading north up through the Raggeds and Jumentos for the next week or so, then on to the Exumas and home. Boat and gear are holding up well after some earlier alternator issues back in January/February. Unfortunately I still don't know for sure the root cause but we seem to be OK as long as we're running both engines and sharing the load. We've now caught 7 Mahi Mahi for the trip including two big guys, too many Barracuda to count, but no tuna yet. Any tips on trolling for tuna? I've been using pink and white plastic squid on a wire leader on the advice of some locals further south. Do you know a good source for cedar plugs? http://shiptrak.org/?callsign=w2tli&filter=360 |

I downloaded Florida but there seems to be a lot more charts than that. Drag the map around till what you want is in the center then select larger scale chart. The available charts are outlined in green. When you get the chart you want you can zoom in and out, and select the features you want. That's all I know so far. I've played with it for half an hour, but its time to go to bed. Good luck. Did you download electronic or raster charts. I did electronic and I think they suck. |

I just downloaded raster charts for florida which included the entire Gulf of Mexico. Wow! They are awesome. Use up/down arrows to select the chart scale you want and the magnifying glass to zoom in and out. |
