Harry, is that good or bad? *I'm not familiar with either company or

Raymarine was a spinoff of the old Raytheon marine products operation.
Raytheon made very high quality marine electronics to near military
specs, and some of it is still going strong more than 30 years after
it was built. * Raymarine cut a lot of corners after the spinoff
however, and the legendary quality is just not there any more. * Word
has gotten around, hurting sales, and of course the entire
recreational boating market is in a huge slump.

FLIR is kind of a recent upstart which has carved out a niche market
for reduced vision devices (fog, night time, etc.). *

Their gear is a bit pricey and not often found on boats less than 65
feet or so.

Without knowing more than I do, my guess is they are going to meld the
Raytheon military products, RADAR and GPS technology with the FLIR IR
technology and come out with the next big thing. Maybe a heads up
display in your cockpit that can see IR, sense with RADAR and lay it
down on a soft copy chart. with course and heading.

,.. but that is just what they might be able to do with all of that
technology. *- Hide quoted text -

Could it also be that RayMarine was purchased because they might have
some patents that FLIR was wanting? I've seen that happen before....
