agreement to sell its shares in Raymarine Holdings Limited to a
subsidiary of FLIR Systems, Inc. ("FLIR") a world leader in thermal
imaging products. The sale represents the entire business operations of
Raymarine and its subsidiaries.

Who really knows? The shares of Ray were almost worthless, according to
the documentation I saw. To me, at least, buyouts are not usually good
for fans of the bought-out company. Ray was a pretty decent maker of
boater electronics. I know what "FLIR" is, but I don't know anything
about FLIR systems.

Raymarine was a spinoff of the old Raytheon marine products operation.
Raytheon made very high quality marine electronics to near military
specs, and some of it is still going strong more than 30 years after
it was built. Raymarine cut a lot of corners after the spinoff
however, and the legendary quality is just not there any more. Word
has gotten around, hurting sales, and of course the entire
recreational boating market is in a huge slump.

FLIR is kind of a recent upstart which has carved out a niche market
for reduced vision devices (fog, night time, etc.).

Without knowing more than I do, my guess is they are going to meld the
Raytheon military products, RADAR and GPS technology with the FLIR IR
technology and come out with the next big thing. Maybe a heads up
display in your cockpit that can see IR, sense with RADAR and lay it
down on a soft copy chart. with course and heading.

It's possible but I have no idea. If they wanted Raymarine for the
brand and product line there is work to be done.
