![]() Does Ford make motors used in boats? I ask as Ford just outsold GM as the #1 sales in the US. And there is a stench on GM for bailouts, I have a fundimental issue with. That is, I will not spend my money on a corporation that is in my pocket via taxations. So does Ford supply inboard motors to anyone? -- -------------- Politicians don't provide anything, the tax payers do. |

Mercuruiser used them on some of the models in the mid 70's but I take it that GM made them a better offer on their power plants and Ford was dropped. OMC was the last to use them as I recall on the lowly 2.3 in their runabouts. But there were several Ford big block 429-460 engines used in jet boats. But that's played out by now, too. I don't think you'll find a modern Ford engine used in any kind of domestic marine application today, and that's sad, because they were pretty good units, too! |

OMC is part of Bombardier, they overcharge Canadians and are tax pocket pickers. And can't say I am a OMC fan. Looking at the 18' or 19' range, googling I could find stuff for larger boats but nothing for this size that wasn't GM. Sure don't need 450 hp in a 18's boat. Guess outboard is the way then. Kind of specing out what I want. But like inboards as they tend to be better on fuel millage. |

Hell, this is a good time, get the deals in the next year or two. -- Politicians don't provide anything, the tax payers do. |

Hell, this is a good time, get the deals in the next year or two. Nobody will believe you. Secretive people often brag about their fictional vast fortunes, fleet of boats, European villas, etc. Might as well just start lying now. So what boat(s) do you have? |

A problem was there were the good Windsor engine, but the industrial division was the supplier. Pulley's were different etc. So was hard to get accessory replacement parts. |

![]() "Harry" wrote in message m... Inboards cannot compete with four stroke outboards if you are talking similar horsepower. They weigh more, and the way they are hooked to the prop is less efficient, whether you are using one via an outdrive or a propshaft angled through the boat's bottom. The outboard's drive system is less complex than that of an outdrive, and more reliable, plus you can pull it completely out of the water. No big gasket on the transom, either. The "straight inboard" shaft assembly is less complex than that of the outboard, but...the inboard prop is angled. That is less efficient. Depends on the size of the boat. Eisboch |
