But, depending on what you are towing, you need to make sure the rating (even if it's just on paper) is high enough to be legal. Eisboch Something along the 25-28 foot fifth wheel. The 250 is a pretty popular tow vehicle from what we've seen at the campsites. -- John H "A government policy to rob Peter to pay Paul can be assured of the support of Paul." -- George Bernard Shaw I'm a big fan of a motorhome with a towed rather than a trailer/fifth wheel and a big hauler. Unless you can afford to park the hauler and use it only for your camping trips, you're stuck driving this big freaking vehicle around all the time... including when camping. With the class A, you drive it to/from your destination. Then you drive your towed vehicle around, and it can be anything fun/economical/ cool that you want. Plus you can make sandwiches, the wife can go to the bathroom and dry her hair while going down the road. While not camping, the behemoth is parked. Unless you need that F350 for something else, I don't see the upside. But that's me. A 250's the biggest I'd go. There are pros and cons to both, but we've about settled on the travel trailer route. The motorhomes are just too much for the amount of travelling we'd do. -- John H "A government policy to rob Peter to pay Paul can be assured of the support of Paul." -- George Bernard Shaw Yup - Fixed costs. Too bad the frames rotted out in a few years That was actually a major improvement. I had a '58 Ford Fairlane when I was in college where *everything* rotted out. :-) I did get my money's worth however. I bought it used in the summer of '65 for $265, drove it for a year, put 19,000 miles on it, and sold it for $250. |

Hotels are much cheaper and there is no maintenance! Bruce My wife has an aversion to hotel beds. Weird, but that's life. We really do enjoy the little 18' trailer we've got. There is no rush to get into something bigger, but if we did, it would probably be a fifth-wheel trailer. -- John H "A government policy to rob Peter to pay Paul can be assured of the support of Paul." -- George Bernard Shaw |

VW When I took my '02 7.3L Superduty in on the last cruise control recall I got to talking with the diesel service manager about the new diesel and he told me that it was to be built in Brazil. It will be interesting to see how it works out usually first year new products have teething problems. I doubt I will be getting a new one anyway I've only got about 48K on the one I have now and it pulls our 28' sailboat and 24'TT just fine. Jim -- |
