that he put an extra "e" at the end of a word? That would be silly and petty,

When I was in boot camp, on the Island, we had a drill instructor who
got an NJP for physically instilling some discipline into a recruit. We
as a platoon took up a collection, about $300, and gave it to the DI to
make up for fine.
