Default Killin' for Jesus!!! Hallelujah!!!

Well, I guess this guy didn't exactly try killin' for Jesus. Turns
out he was getting back at a cop for arresting his wife for DUI.

He was just doing his duty as a good husband and citizen.

SOUTH BEND, Wash. -- A state trooper who was shot in the head Saturday
was assisting in a DUI investigation of the suspected gunman's wife,
court documents revealed Tuesday.

As Scott Johnson recovers at home from two gunshot wounds, Martin A.
Jones remains in the Pacific County Jail, facing charges of attempted
murder and assault.

According to the statement of probable cause, another trooper, Jesse
Greene, noticed a black van driving about 10 mph over the speed limit
on State Route103 just after midnight Saturday morning.

Upon stopping the van, he asked the driver, who was later identified
the wife of the suspected shooter, to step out and complete a battery
of field sobriety tests. The tests resulted in her arrest for
investigation of driving under the influence. She was alone in the
van, the document said.

Johnson was called to help process the car and wait for a tow truck
while Greene took the woman to the police station for a breathalyzer
test.

As the tow truck operator was getting the van ready, a man walked up
to him, the operator told detectives.

"And when he walked up to me, he said, 'What are you doing?' And I
said I was doing a DUI impound, and he left," George Hill told KOMO
News.

A short time later, Hill noticed the man return and walk up behind
Johnson, who was busy doing inventory in the van. Hill told detectives
he saw the man's hand come up and while he didn't see a weapon, heard
the gun shots.

"I remember the gun going off," he said.

The man took a few steps back and made a chuckling sound, Hill said.

Thinking the gunman had fired a toy gun, Hill began chasing after the
gunman him, Hill told investigators.

"And in my mind I'm thinking, 'What an idiot! What does he think he's
going to do with a cap gun?'" he said.

But he soon learned the weapon was not a toy as the man turned and
fired his gun at the Hill striking the van in the passenger side
window, the statement said.

"And behind me, I can hear Scott yell out, 'I've been shot!"' Hill
said.

Hill ran back behind his truck for cover. As he called out to the
trooper to see if he was OK, the shooter ran in front of the injured
trooper, the document said. Johnson fired off two rounds, but didn't
strike the man and the man got away.

According to the statement, a police dog tracked the man back to
Jones' home in Seaview, about a mile south of the shooting scene.

Later that day, troopers interviewed Jones, and Hill was driven by the
home to see if he could identify Jones as the shooter, detectives
said. At the time, Hill told investigators he didn't think that was
the man who shot the trooper. Detectives also showed Johnson, who they
say was highly medicated at the time, a photo of Jones, but he
couldn't identify Jones as the shooter either.

On Sunday, a sketch artist talked to Jones and completed a sketch of
the suspect, which ended up bearing a resemblance to the suspected
gunman, detectives said. Investigators said a photo montage including
an image of Jones was given to Johnson, who immediately identified
Jones as the shooter.

Detectives returned to Jones' house and found him with suitcases
packed, the statement said. Jones was placed under arrest.

Prosecutors said Jones' wife may have provided the motive behind the
shooting, as she owns the van that was being towed when shots rang
out.

"Something seems to have happened with that van. And that's what's
being bounced around. And we've got to go where the leads take us,"
said Pacific County Prosecutor David Burke.

Jones, who does not have a prior criminal record, is being held on $5
million bail. He is scheduled to be arraigned on Friday.
