I have to apologize to everyone. My inferiority complex is showing
again. I realize that the local TV news was wrong, and I see that
Americans have donated way more than Canadians. I guess it really is
true that Canadians suffer from a severe case of 'merican inferiority'
when even the local TV compares our achievements to 'mericans.

We are a really sad country.

We have far less disposable income than Americans. Less room to give.

Yeah, you're so great.

Bitch, you and the Loogy-Spoofer are always ragging on Canadians. Why
don't you and Loogy both just go to hell.

Dear spoofer... I have no problem with Canadians. I think the men, for the
most part, are very nice. Knucklehead isn't a Canadian, apparently. He's a
ex-pat American with a grudge against his former country. Not sure who
loogy-spoofer is.. been to hell, your mom said you were out. FYI, human not
female dog.

Have a wonderful day!

And we have dropped off food already, which is more important than money
if your starving.

Give it 6 months and the gangs will rule again, the drug trade will
revive and business as usual. Because if we really cared about Haiti
they woul dhave had martial law and birth control 2 decades ago.

Yesterday I saw them handing out bags of rice (50 lbs would be my
guess) from a truck to folks on the ground. When a person on the
ground got a bag, there'd be a fight to take it away from him, and the
baddest guy would get the food. I'm sure he'd take it and try to sell
it.

Seems like they'd learn not to do it that way. Don't know who it was,
Americans or someone else. Really stupid though.

I agree. Someone should re-pack that rice in small baggies...maybe enough
for a days rations in each.
This would only work if the truck was there everyday passing out the small
rations.

NO the proper thing is to explain to the bad guy trying to take the food and
resell it is, do not do that. Or I am going to have the local military guy
shoot you dead.

There aren't any local military guys to do it. The ones that are armed
are gang members, to whom the rice is probably going anyway.

Yeah, doling out the rice a little at a time would take time. If
people brought their own containers, which don't seem to be in short
supply, the rice could easily be scooped into the container. Yeah, it
might not be the fastest way to distribute the food, but at least
women and children may get some of it.

Gee, I wonder what country has the manpower and resources, not to
mention the balls and the will to go in and protect the people from
those 4000+ escaped prisoners who escaped from the prison and the gangs
trying to control the food? Hummm? I wonder??? Too bad America has to
worry about the whole world screaming occupation, and the ACLU or some
foreign government suing the US because some soldier turned around and
bumped into a local giving him a bruise on his or her arm...

I saw a report where some Military (don't remember which branch or
country of origin) were protecting what was left of an orphanage and the
folks living there from looters and thugs. I got the impression there
may have been only a couple, but a couple of sharp US Marines can take
care of stuff pretty well..

Another option might be gigantic 'soup kitchens' where the rice etc is
cooked and the locals get to eat under supervision and protection.
The army should be very capable of this type of mass feedings.
