FL. so maybe too cold for boating. However, great for looking for caves. All the snakes are too cold to move. Another way it works is that on very cold mornings with dry air, the caves actually blow air out that is more humid and warmer than the outside air. So, one can find caves on mornings like this by looking for the condensing water vapor near them. Mostly, it is the snakes being too cold to move. The rest of us will be hunkered down in our houses with the heat turned up. This is definitely not golfing weather! I was thinking of driving south and playing for a couple of days but, there is no place to go. Yup. Myrtle Beach is in the 30's. But, I'm going out to Greendale tomorrow. I'm tired of the damn treadmill. |

That's it, I'm heading south, way south. USVI, BVI, St Martin, Antigua, Dominica, Martinique, St Lucia, St Vincent, Grenada... First we've got to get out of here and across the Gulf Stream without getting beat up too badly. Stay tuned. You be careful, damnit. http://www.navy.mil/search/display.asp?story_id=50382 Don't want you making the damn news. There's some pretty bad stuff out there. |

With only a couple of notable exceptions, the trip will be mostly island hopping in populated areas. I'll post information on our blog site and position tracking sites after we take off, hopefully next week. |

Are you going south around Key West or taking the short cut under the 7 mile bridge. Watch out for pirates, either at sea with guns or the ones ashore who hold diesel nozzles ;-.) There's actually a third choice under what is known as the "Channel 5" bridge, near Matecumbe Harbor, about 20 nautical miles east of Marathon. We'll probably go that way unless the wind blows all the water out of Florida Bay, or we have some need to stop in Marathon. http://img9.imageshack.us/img9/2928/channel5bridge.jpg Our typical route is Sanibel to Big Marco Pass, Big Marco to Channel 5, Channel 5 to the Gulf Stream and then over to Castle Rock, Chub Cay and Nassau. From there we'll go south through the Exumas to the Turks and Caicos, and then on to the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico and the USVI. |
