I know of guys buying cases of ammo, waterproofing them, and burying
them in the back yard. When the "end-times" don't materialize as
expected, in a few years they'll be out there like squirrels trying to
find that out-of-date ammo.

Can't remember the details, but when I a bit too young to think
clearly, I buried a cheap briar pipe to "age" it.
No waterproofing of course.
Unfortunately, I remembered where I buried it.
Fortunately, I never tried that with my meerschaums.

I have a childhood BFF whose mother, now deceased, was an Orthodox Jew,
and kept her kitchen according to the strictest laws of kashrut. I
remember once when we were in junior high I was spending a long weekend
holiday up at his parent's house in Waterbury when his mama inadvertantly
mixed up something regarding silverware and ran out into the back yard to
"cleanse" the offending item by shoving it into the ground few times. She
told me this was "tradition," not Jewish law.

Burying ammo...now that is funny. Better the birthers bury themselves and
have someone push the dirt in on them.
