Default Yo!! Gene!!

As the only other scifi fan in this newsgroup, thought you'd be
interested in this.

Scifi movies in the next year or two:

"Rockfish (2010)

This CGI film is set to have Vin Diesel voice the main character in
this odd tale of a man on an alien planet who sets out in pursuit of a
giant fish that is disrupting the planet's mining operations. Sounds a
bit like someone was cross-reading Dune and Moby Dick. Blur Studios
originally produced this as a short CGI feature.

Here's the short - it was one of the original Flash animations ever
produced. Very cool. I might even go to a theatre to see this one.

"Lensman (2011)

J. Michael Straczynski revived a fair amount of interest in Ron
Howard's proposed adaptation of the E.E. 'Doc' Smith SF novels when
his involvement as writer was announced early last year. The Lensman
series takes place over several million years of conflict between the
good Arisians and bad Eddorians, and the eponymous lens is the
McGuffin that lends telepathic powers to whoever possesses it. None of
this sounds at all cheap."

If Straczynski is involved in this, there's a lot of potential for
some really cool CGI (he's working with Lionsgate CGI shop now on
another project and owns a piece of it) and this fits his type of
writing style - he often said he owed a lot of B5's success to Doc
Smith.

"The Water Warriors (2011)

Rather taking its thematic cue from a gag in Douglas Adams' The
Hitch-Hiker's Guide To The Galaxy, Silver Fox Films brings us this
story of an alien invasion fleet who land on Earth only to find that
they have made a massive error in scale, and are barely big enough to
be seen by humans. They go on to assume that frogs and such are the
dominant species on the planet. This CGI-animated film will be voiced
by Patrick Stewart, Stephen Fry and Miriam Margolyes, amongst others."

I heard via my friend Ross Ruediger that this is a go and Pixar is set
to join Silver Fox as a partner in the production cycle. This could be
fun.
