FS: 1986 Bayliner Trophy w/Trailer $4700.00 OBO in Ohio
FS: 1986 Bayliner Trophy w/Trailer $4700.00 OBO in Ohio
Since my new boat is in water and working well, I really need to sell the Trophy. So in addition to the further drop in price to $4700.00, I am considering trades for a cruising sailboat, jet boat, or a truck or SUV with towing capabilities. If your looking for an affordable, sturdy entry level boat for fishing or cruising, you owe it to yourself to check this boat out! Except for her low top speed, she really is a great all around boat. In fact, I spent alot of time looking for a trophy, 2160, 2460, or 2860 with more power, for serious cruising, that's how much I appreciate this design. She has an outside deck much larger than boats in the 21-24 foot range, while offering the same or better cabin accomodations in cuddy cabin boats of the same size. She takes to Lake Erie chop quite well, MUCH better than my 23 foot Chris Craft. She is a fishing boat, so she is built with all types storage that I use for cruising. Here are the specs: Boat Type:* Open Fishing/Cruiser with cuddy cabin* Length:* 20'8"* Beam: 8'* Weight: 3400lbs Power: 131HP in-line 4cyl I/O: VP275 Cruising speed: 19MPH Top Speed: 24MPH Sleeps:* Three to Four people in three separate bunks For more information and pictures go to: http://www.geocities.com/disenchante...ng/Trophy.html Interested parties can contact me at my email address: or via phone at : 216-849-8468. Please leave a message regarding the boat and an appropriate time for a return call if I am unavailable. For ANY interested party I will make myself available to show the boat and am willing to offer a sea trial to serious buyers. Thanks for your time. For anyone purchasing the boat, I will help in her winterizing if she is stored in the Cleveland or Sandusky areas. Bob Dimond |

If you're looking to make an equal trade, you're not going to get a "truck or SUV with towing capabilities". In fact, you'll be lucky to get a truck with starting and running capabilities. Cruising Speed - Was 1986 Bayliner Trophy w/Trailer $4700.00 OBO in Ohio
NYOB--
Most boats in that size range don't plane until 18mph. Your "cruise" speed is just 1 mph over planing speed? df-- I'm new to powerboatinig, so bear with me. I thought the most efficient speed for a boat was whatever it took to get on a plane and stay there without excessive trim. If that's true, isn't cruising speed the same as the most efficient speed? If not, how else would one determine cruising speed? |

Cruising Speed - Was 1986 Bayliner Trophy w/Trailer $4700.00 OBO in Ohio
The most fuel-efficient speed while on plane.
Most properly powered 20 foot boats plane around 18 mph...but get their best fuel economy in the mid to high 20's. That Bayliner is running wide open at only 24mph. If you're looking to make an equal trade, you're not going to get a "truck or SUV with towing capabilities". In fact, you'll be lucky to get a truck with starting and running capabilities. I don't know where you hail from, but in Ohio, I can get a mid nineties truck or SUV for three to four thousand dollars. Not perfect of course, but suitable for my needs. You comment seems no more than off handed opinion, mislabled as fact. Most boats in that size range don't plane until 18mph. Your "cruise" speed is just 1 mph over planing speed? 24 mph top speed for a planing hull isn't, as you say, a "low top speed"...it's unacceptable for that type boat. While what you say is a good rule of thumb for many boats, this boat planes with tabs at about 16.5 mph. As for what is acceptable for this boat configuration, I don't kknow. I can't find anyone who will tell me what speed this boat should be able to attain with the AQ131 Engine. I find that for the type of cruising I like to do, covering 100 or more miles a day, it is underpowered, that doesn't mean that the boat is unsafe, or that someone else cannot enjoy it for what is is, a slow but stable boat, good for fishing or cruising. The reason it "rides better than your Chris-Craft" is because you're barely on plane while "cruising" in the Bayliner. As for your explanation for why the Bayline rides better, you really need to preface your comments as opinion, instead of fact. The fact is several people have been with me on both boats in similar conditions cruisingat similar speeds. The Bayliner, with its deeper vee rides better period. You really should consider prefacing your comments. Bob Dimond |

I'm sure the "cruise speed" of your Chris-Craft is 8-10mph faster than your Bayliner. In anything over a 2 foot chop, 8-10mph makes all the difference in the world in ride comfort. The Bayliner, with its deeper vee rides better period. You really should consider prefacing your comments. Bob Dimond |

The boat still comes on plane at 16.6 MPH. As for your explanation for why the Bayline rides better, you really need to preface your comments as opinion, instead of fact. The fact is several people have been with me on both boats in similar conditions cruisingat similar speeds. "Cruising at similar speeds"? Perhaps my use (or misuse) of the term "cruising" threw you. Cruising is this context means to travel, not to travel at "cruising speed". So my obserfvations are based on the two boats running at similar speeds. Your right, the Chris-Craft cruising speed is about 8mph faster, but your still wrong in insisting that the Chris-Craft rides better than the Bayliner. |

24MPH Sleeps: Three to Four people in three separate bunks Three to four what? Elves? Amputees? I doubt this boat sold for $4700 new. LOL. Damn! I was going to post a humorous slam of his advertisement, but I decided to keep it somewhat on the straight and narrow. I guess you just blew *that* out of the water. For those who are offended, my apologies for the following rant: Rant ON Harry and company, Your remarks to my post was amusing, you're quite the witty trolls! Seriously, while I'm only 5'9" 200lbs, my younger brother is over six foot and neither of us have had problems sleeping in those bunks. In fact, 2-3 adults, all over 5'8", have slept comfortably on this boat every summer weekend for the last several years. OF course, if your over 6'5" and/or morbidly obese, it may be cramped. So Harry, what are you basing your statement on? Have you slept in a Trophy 2160? Have you ever been in the cabin of a Trophy 2160? And if by chance you did actually lay down in a 2160 bunk, because it's too cramped for you does that mean it's to cramped for anyone? You doubt the boat sold for $4700.00 new? Maybe your right. Since I'm not the original owner of the boat, I truly don't know. Can you please help me and post a book value for a 1986 Trophy 2160 with a Closed cooled Volvo AQ131, and a LoadMaster trailer, along with where you obtained those value(s) from? Were you ready to present any facts to base your damaging comments on, or did you just want to play Zeus, hurling down your lightning bolts of wit from your virtual Mount Olympus? I'm not asking you to buy the boat. I'm not asking you to like the boat. I am trying to sell this boat, hopefully to someone who can appreciate it as much as I have. I'm not trying to sell it as something its not. I freely admit that I feel the boat is underpowered for MY cruising needs. My Asking price is less than I paid several years ago, and I put alot of time and care into this boat. This ASKING price is WELL BELOW BUC book value. On top of that, I'm entertaining offers and trades for someone who wants to buy a relable boat at a fair price. So why should this advertisement, which is more on topic than 90% of the posts in this group, draw fire from you or anyone else? Since you seem to have no personal interest in this boat, and since you seem to be too busy with being the pillar of wit and wisdom for rec.boats, to bother with posting facts or relevant information, why don't you, and others who share your infantile mentality, SHUT YOUR F*CK*NG ARROGANT HOLES, okay? For once in your pathetic little lives, just give it a try, and see how it suits you. You and others of your ilk truly amaze me. A hand full of you have managed to take a good group, where mariners could exchange stories and information, and turned it into a rotting pool of ****, where over 90% of the posts are petty narrow-minded opinions and put downs, which rarely have anything to do with boating. The people who take pleasure in this activity of ruining this group for the rest of us should really be ashamed of themselves. You toads really need to GET A F*CK*NG LIFE, instead of the "that boats no good" or "my boat is better than your boat" **** that you so easily fling with less thought than a monkey throwing their fecal matter at a zoo. Why don't you trolls take your bull**** to a listserver where you can subscribe to hear each other beating your chests, and leave the real boaters in this group to reap the benefit of not having to wade through your juvenille crap. Rant OFF Sincerely, Bob Dimond |
