One last question. Promise.

On the right side of my merc 40 engine, facing it from the rear, is an
UP/DOWN rocker switch. Is this a power trim? Didn't see if it worked when
I had the motor running, and today when I pulled the cowling looking for
engine SN, I noticed some wires had been disconnected there.

Right now, I figure by the engine number that it is an '89 ELPTO. (Electric
Start, Long Shaft, Power Trim, Oil Injected)
