That seems to be going around - something about VISTA and Leopard or
whatever Apple calls it are built around the same platform or using the

OS X is an overlay on Darwin, which is a Unix type OS. While rumors have
it that there is some Unix code in Windows, it is definitely not Unix
based.

Rumors also have it that the next Windows will be truly different, at
least for Windows. Reportedly, it will use a hypervisor for backward
compatibility. By the way, hypervisors are not new. When I absolutely
have to use that buggy, insecure, POS, operating system called
Windows ;-), I run it on Linux using VirtualBox.

If by "next Windows," you mean Windows 7, it won't be "truly different"
from VISTA, or a new OS built from scratch, but will be evolutionary.

Here's a semi-official blog that keeps track of it without being too
technical:

I don't follow Windows development, but I do remember there being
speculation that a hypervisor would be included. Apparently, the beta is
out now.
