Lake Maurepas. that's aboutt he way the water normally is on y favorite going place Carlyle lake in S. Illinois. usually a little choppy but a good breeze can make it really rough. |

There is some info in the video description. Oh man - fishing the bayou's of Louisiana... You ever run into one of those water moc's that when they get ****ed off, they flip themselves into the boat? Had that happen a couple of times. Also had one drop out of a low hanging branch right on top of me. I hate snakes. :) When I worked for Texaco, a good friend Wayne "Crumb" Ort (I defy anybody to figure out his nickname) had a fishing camp south of Venice along one of the oil company cut canals - we had access to the Gulf from his camp and all kinds of canals where HUGE catfish could be found along with redfish, flounder and occasionally red snapper. Man, that was great fishing. One of my best hunting stories was with Wayne. He had built a pirogue one summer and planned on using it on one of the feeder streams for Bayou des Ecores during deer season. He had this monster 10 guage shotgun - damn thing was shoulder mounted portable field artillery in reality. We loaded up, headed out and sure as heck, as we're paddling along a monster 10/12 point buck jumped right up on top of a levee - Wayne grabbed the 10 guage and let fly - so much force, it flipped the pirogue fight over. Ok, ok - that's the way I tell the story - in actuality, we were so startled by the deer, I jumped back to one side of the pirogue just as Wayne let fly. :) Over balanded the boat. Splash. Of course insult to injury, he missed the damn deer - it wouldn't have been so bad if he hadn't missed the deer. :) Wayne was also the protagonist of one of my favorite fishing stories. I had just bought my very first Ranger bass boat and we were using it to fish the flats around Venice for specks. As it happened, Wayne was sitting in the front of the boat and spotted a huge redfish finning the reed bank along the shore. He threw everything at that fish and it would take the lure or bait, mouth it and spit it back out. After about fifteen minutes of watching this, I threw the cat fish smacker (a small baseball bat) up on the front deck and said "Why don't you just go beat the thing to death?". Wayne looked at me, looked at the bat, picked it up and promptly jumped out of the boat and started chasing the fish. I swear to God on a stack of bibles, that damn fish stayed just out of reach almost as if it was having fun making an idiot out of him. :) Wayne was one crazy coonass. What's hanging off the transom of your boat (engine)? |
