Wow....Love those big beams and MOUNTAIN TOPS! Lucky for him he's in
backwater Venezuela where there must be very few wifi broadcasts going

Now that airliners allow you to run your laptop in your seat, see what I
mean by "noise". Go to:
http://www.stumbler.net
and download Net Stumbler, a sort of scanner/logger/map interface
software to search out wifi nodes. Install it on your laptop. As you're
taxiing down the runway, boot it up and watch what happens as the plane
lifts off over the city. Net Stumbler will go berserk above 100' as the
plane climbs out until you get to about 3000' where the distance to the
little routers is too attenuated to hear them any more. You'll get
thousands of hits per minute! That's the noise he DIDN'T have for this
feat. They were too far up the mountain to receive the noise coming in
from the city below....(c;

I have Net Stumbler, just driving around here (LA county) it is nuts. It
seams every house has WIFI!

Anywhere in Charleston there is a lawyer's office has free wifi. They
never seem to secure their systems because they are too cheap to hire
proper IT people. I know several of them. Doesn't matter.

The City of Charleston now provides free 110Kbps (capped) wifi to anyone
connecting to its system in downtown Charleston, a gift to the lawyers in
the courthouse but touted as free for everyone. They hired a company to
install lots of hotspots around the lower peninsula....in lawyer
country...(c; Charleston City Marina gave up trying to charge for wifi
because all the boaters were logging onto Ashley Marina's free wifi next
door, anyway. Now, they are both free with lots of bandwidth and marina-
wide wifi repeaters to improve coverage across the docks. City Marina
also provides cable TV to all renters. The F connectors are on the power
post.

The downtown peninsula, West-of-the-Ashley area, Mt Pleasant are all
saturated with wifi. The malls have wifi, but they are now all wep
secured except for a couple of hotspots in 2 malls. The mall companies
are too cheap to put hotspots across the malls. All the hotels are
hotspots, as is Circuit City electronic stores. Just give the hotel
webpage Room 108 and it logs right on, even if room 108 is vacant. They
just want to show you their webpage advertiser at logon.

Net Stumbler is a great asset to any laptop....(c;
