I currently have a bunch of Navionic Charts on Nav-Chart cards. I am looking to find a PC based reader that would allow me to copy them to a Compact Flash format so I can use them on a new Raymarine C80 plotter. snip Are those the MMC media format? MMC is exactly the same dimensions as SD but is thinner and does not have a lock/unlock slider on it. MMC is a locked format and not normally readable from a PC. You can put the MMC cards in most or all SD card readers but when you try to see, read, or copy the locked data from windows Explorer you will not be able. And, since you can't see contents you can't copy it or back it up. I think sometimes you can see one folder or file on the card and that is used to run the locked data (normally a game or application) under a given OS (like on the Palm MMC game/applications cards). More info on the Navionics MMC cards and an image of one he http://www.waypoints.com/navgold.html The home page from that site is a great place to get some specifics on the different electronic chart formats and their applications: http://www.waypoints.com/cartchart.html I also wouldn't mind backing them up given their age. I assume such a device exists but haven't been able to find anything that can read the cards other than my current plotter. The concept is that if you could back them up you could make copies and give them away or sell them. And some people will do that, so those that would not do it have to be punished too. It is all about money. :) Jack -- Jack Erbes in Ellsworth, Maine, USA - jackerbes at adelphia dot net (also receiving email at jacker at midmaine.com) |
