Hanna a non-event in Charleston...
It's really raining, on and off every hour. The wind is terrific,
sometimes even rustling the leaves in the very top of my oak tree! I can see it from the DEAD CALM GROUND! The Folly Beach Surf Cam shows waves nearly knee deep on the edge of the Atlantic in the rain. There's a huge party going on at the bar at the Windjammer Lounge on the very beachfront of the Isle of Palms just north of the harbor. You can watch the rain and the party on www.jammercam.com from your browser. The rain has spotted the lens of the "Deck Cam" on the roof, but you can still see the NEARLY FLAT OCEAN on it. I did feel a gust coming back from dinner that hit the car in between massive road flooding because the *******s that are SUPPOSED to be keeping up our roads no longer scrape off the grass overgrowth that traps the water in large pools on the road surface every few hundred yards. Some pools drain off into the many potholes going unfilled. The TV "news" and "weather" people have done their advertisers a wonderful job of scaring the hell out of the population who've been just cleaning the shelves off at WalMart and the hardware stores all day. I hope everyone piles it BACK in the SUV and RETURNS IT TOMORROW, first thing in the morning. The storm is sponsored by WalMart. The storm is right off the coast of Charleston as I type this, as close as it's gonna get. The leaves out of my window aren't even moving at the moment. Maybe later there'll be a ripple on the river out front not caused by raindrops....like now. The boats are all being rinsed off at the marinas in nice fresh water. |

208.49.80.253: It's really raining, on and off every hour. http://www.ndbc.noaa.gov/station_page.php?station=41004 This bouy is out in the 60 knot tropical storm...almost a hurricane on any TV station, Weather Channel, NWS website..... Notice how the surface winds near the 60 knot winds, directly in front of the storm that's now just off Charleston are reading: Wind Direction (WDIR): E ( 80 deg true ) 5-day plot - Wind Speed Wind Speed (WSPD): 25.3 kts 5-day plot - Wind Gust Wind Gust (GST): 29.1 kts 5-day plot - Wave Height Wave Height (WVHT): 14.1 ft 5-day plot - Dominant Wave Period Dominant Wave Period (DPD): 11 sec 5-day plot - Average Period Average Period (APD): 7.5 sec Is television telling lies to scare people into panic buying at WalMart and the other advertisers' stores? It certainly looks this way from here..... Hell, they were standing in a long line this morning to buy propane! |

208.49.80.253: http://www.ndbc.noaa.gov/station_page.php?station=41004 Seas 22 ft at 2330 EDT out on bouy 41004....impressive. But it's not making it to Folly Beach by the harbor entrance. Wind there is only 12 knots now down from 20 knots. There's a big hurricane party right on the beach at the Windjammer bar (www.jammercam.com) you can watch near realtime....(c; "It is always better to be standing on the dock, wishing you were at sea...than to be at sea, wishing you were standing on the dock." |
