Mooring whip workout
"Ernest Scribbler" wrote in message . .. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-w0hjOpkXdo That's a stupid way to secure the sailboat. People ought to realize that any wakes will pretty much parallel the shoreline as boats ply the stream or finger lake. Instead of securing the sailboat with its beam ends to the wake any sensible person would secure it with the bow out so the waves would not roll it around like that. Most sailboats pitch far less than they roll. This is another case of lubberly ignorance. So the motorboat gets the blame for poor engineering of the dock and the stupidity of the dock user! Duh! I'd recommend one or two anchors permanently set on the channel side of the boat to pull it further off the dock. That would probably be effective, but the Corpse of Engineers has issues with anyone getting any farther out into the channel than absolutely necessary here. And not totally without reason: Docks have been hit by barge tows in this area. The whips do a good job of protecting the boat, and most of the time the large power cruiser drivers around here have the sense not to park their throttles in the "dead plow" position. |
