It was only last year that the then Australian Prime Minister- Howard - denied that there was such a thing as global warming. The term Ecology was just coming into its own in 1967 in my first year at university as a Zoology student. Rachel Carson's book "Silent Spring' made a huge impact on people's concepts of pollution and the interdependence of biosystems and living things. The sad thing is that until very recently anyone espousing the science on global warming, depleting resources, the environment and pollution was held in ridicule by most people. They are not laughing now. I am not normally Malthusian but I do worry for my children and my children's children. Peter |
