You will get cruise ships in Glacier Bay as well as Tracy Arm. The advantage
of Tracy Arm is that you don't have to get a permit in advance and can enter whenever you show up. Glacier Bay requires you get a permit way in advance and give the exact days you will be in the park. Since there aren't a lot of anchorages around near glaciers, you will have a decent day travel into and back from the actual Glacier. If your time is short and you want to play in the ice flows, Tracy Arm is probably a better choice. There's some Tracy Arm pictures at http://www.jcruiser.org/37/Jeorgia/A...aska_trip1.htm from my trip summer before last. Paul www.jcruiser.org "Steve" wrote in message ... I'm working out a few details of my summer '04 trip up the Inside Passage and it looks like I will have time to go as far as Glacier Bay and take a look at some ice. Does anyone have any recommendations of what inlets or glaciers that make it all worth while?? I figure I will only have a day or two to spend there and don't want to go any farther north. Also I would like to avoid following in the wake of the cruise ships.. I know they go into Tracy Arm and Sawyer Glacier. Maybe the fact that my boat is smaller, I can get into places that they can't. Suggestions will be appreciated. Steve s/v Good Intentions |
