He wasn't - and I doubt I was, but - I had the only water intrusion on my wreck from a punched-off mushroom on a depth sounder transducer, allowing water to seep up the now-opened core. It was plastic; perhaps a bronze one would have survived the pounding. In any event, my normal bilge pumps cycled comfortably during the several-hour tow back to the repair joint, so not much water was able to get between the core and the hull-hole. So, there's one which was defective, later, in that same hole (I had a replacement), and one which is an inside, shoot-through-the-hull mounted next to it. If I ever have the same wreck, I'll have the same potential for water intrusion :{)) - but I'll still have a functioning sounder from the inside!
