I have an old unused thru hull transducer in my hull. Right next to it is
a new one just glued to the inside of the fiberglass and it works great.

I have taking out the old one and fiberglassing up the hole on my
"someday" list but may never get around to it. It's a theoretical weak
point if a floating object should hit that exact spot but anything at that
point is likely to be sliding along the hull. I would have to be pitching
just right on to something sharp and hard to punch that old transducer
through.
Yes, but that would be a problem whether it was working or not.
Anyway, something that would do that would surely make a hole in your hull
anyway.
There are probably thousands of thruhull transducers in use and I have never
heard of one being punched out
