I merely pointed out that the laws exist that make it possible. I
think that the fact those laws exist, even if they never get enforced
is a very bad thing. It undermines our Democracy and our country. I
realize you lack faith in the strength of principles upon which this
nation was founded.

*You're* worried about democracy and someone undermining it or our
country? *You* care about the principles upon which this nation was
founded? From reading things you have written I seriously doubt the
veracity of those statements, but if *you* believe them then I guess you
have a real conundrum in this coming election, huh? If you vote for
either Democrap you violate those beliefs, and if you vote for the
Republican't you violate the same beliefs since except for his belief in
keeping America safe he is the same socialist as the other two traitors.
*At least* he will try to keep our country somewhat safer than the other
two, but the damage to our freedoms and liberties will be nearly the
same. Of course the other two have promised to bankrupt just about
everyone in addition to their regular sedition.

Now I've got it! Its been bothering me where I've heard Osama Obama's
(and Shrillery's also) speeches before and this thread has finally
reminded me - Castro's and Che Guavera's speeches in the late 50's to
early 60's. Not word for word of course, but the same ideas and concepts
and they way it is delivered. But of course those two pigs have also
declared publicly their admiration and friendship for the other dictator
in S.A. so no surprise there.

Cuba will evolve it's institutions in time..

Hardly. But meanwhile tell that to those suffering in poverty there. But
hey, you don't live there so it's easy for you to throw their lives away,
right?

Take a look at who is earning the highest salary .. COPS. Nothing

becoming the highest paid
employees in the US we are in big trouble.

So what you're saying is that police should be paid way less to get shot
at and protect you? You want that job to go to the lowest bidder? You
think cops will be *more* professional by being paid less? And you think
*that* is going to protect your freedoms better? Anyone want to guess how
well cities will keep recuiting up when they offer less pay or benefits
than the sanitation worker gets?
So lets see... you want a guy to sign up to a job he may get killed in...
you want him to be stupid enough to do it for little pay or benefits...
and you think he's going to be smart enough to protect you or your rights.
Is that correct?

Don't know what cops are paid in the big city, but in municipalities
around here they are paid commensurate with other municipal employees.

There is so much here .. where to start ..

First: if the police are not a reflection of the community they protect,
they become a "force" not a protection.
What happens and has happened in many parts of the USA, the police start to
make big money, move to nice
comfortable suburbs and have no respect for the folks they deal with at
work, the inner city and other city citizens.

This is when we get the racist, taser happy, cop, who could care less about
the rights of anybody.

As for being shot at; ?? Most police, never take their gun out and most
never come close to being shot at.

The job is not all that dangerous if you read the statistics. The biggest
danger is from drunk drivers etc .. not from guns.

Police are not hired to protect "my" freedom. They are hired to enforce the
law. If someone is driving drunk, they arrest him/her
and charge them with drunken driving not breaking the constitution.

There is no shortage of recruits for police work, and firemen. The reason?
It is a low education requirement job.
In most cities, a policeman does not need a college education, in fact in my
community he/she does not even need
a high school education. Just pass the physical, mental, police academy.

The pay should be well within the area of what a city employee makes, not
more. In Massachusetts the state police
are making over $200,000 dollars per year. Do you think they have much use
for some poor struggling black guy?

As for benefits, after 20 years on the force, they get a pension. You know
any other job like that in the private sector?

Stop with the cops as victims bull****.

I've seen too many youtube posting lately to have much simpathy for some
dope with a badge.

From what I've read, there have been boaters going to Cuba for

No, it is not. It is however illegal to spend dollars in Cuba under
regulations of the Office of Foreign Assets Control of the US
Treasury. Individuals have been dancing around these regulations in
many ways for many years.

Now don't confuse all those folks with the facts. It's a lot easier
to play the victim if you can say those evil benighted gummint
people won't let you go there than it is to say they won't let you
spend money there.

Let us know all about your trips to Cuba and how you managed to eat,
find lodging, and get around without spending any money, Dave.

I'm not sure if you're responding to me or to Dave. In any case, you can
read about _my_ 1996 trip and my experiences with the Cuban economy on my
web pages. A truly remarkable trip, and please let me know what you think.

could repeat it under the present restrictions ...

You are probably right. I know I myself wouldn't take chances these days
considering the large effort in place to track and control yachts in and
around Cuba. The stakes are simply too large and the deck is stacked. If
you encounter a military vessel with large guns pointing at you, you obey
first and "take actions" later. Too bad that this much effort is
essentially wasted on a trivial point, when there are so many other issues
unaddressed.

Oh please, only inches away on my map, you've got Disney which proves
It's A Small World After All. According to that exhibit, there's no
longer a creature called the Ugly American.
